This fencing mask is designed exclusively for use in the sport of fencing according to the rules of the International Fencing Federation (FIE). Selecting the correct level of performance for protective equipment for fencers should be in accordance with the regulations of the relevant national fencing federation. We strictly recommend to only use protective fencing equipment of the highest level of performance (EN 13567 + A1:2007 level 2 > 1600N) for sabre, epee or foil (please refer to the label). The epee mask can be used for foil when the bib is equipped with the rmovable piece of conductive fabric (only for masks level 2).
To find out the correct size of your fencing mask please refer to the table on our website. The size of the mask must be chosen in the way, that the masks is situated on the head so tight, that even with strong, sudden movements of the head, it will not fall from the head. Nevertheless it should be loose enough to avoid painful pressure to the skin. The mask can be adjusted to the shape of the head by softly pressing together or tearing away the lateral parts of the mask and by bending the bow in the back of the mask.
When fastening your fencing mask, make sure, that the elastics in the back of the mask are closed completely and firmly and that the bow in the back of mask is bent downwards in a way, that the mask is fixed firmly and safely to the head. Hit with increasing force with your hand to the front mesh of the mask to make sure, that an impact will not result in the mask hitting the nose. By strong, sudden movements of your head in all directions make sure, that the mask is safely fixed to your head, so that it won’t fall from your head during fencing. If any of the fastening devices doesn’t work properly any more, the mask may not be used any longer.
Fencing, as a combat sport that involves physical contact with fencing weapons, is inherently dangerous. The purpose of fencing protective equipment is to prevent injuries as much as possible or, at worst, to minimize the severity of injuries, particularly from the weapon’s tip. Broken blades present a particular risk. The circumstances of a blade breakage may result in high tip velocities and consequent high energy impacts by the broken blade. It is known that broken blades can penetrate protective clothing with potentially fatal consequences. Fencing protective gear cannot guarantee complete protection against injuries, especially from broken blades. The protective function of fencing socks is limited to reducing superficial injuries such as abrasions and bruises.
Protective equipment must not be changed or manipulated. In particular, seams should not be unstitched, and no parts should be added or removed.
If any damage of the mask’s wire mesh (dents, broken wires, fissures, expansion of the wire nettings) is visible or if the wire mesh becomes rusty or if the bib loosens from the mesh, the mask may in no case be used any longer.
Care instructions must be strictly followed. Non-compliance can reduce the level of protection of the equipment. Fencing protective equipment should be regularly inspected carefully for mechanical damage (abrasions, tears, holes, torn seams). If such damage is detected, the protective effectiveness may be compromised, and the protective equipment must no longer be used.
"The inside lining of the mask is washable with a wet cloth. Removable inside paddings can be washed by hand at 30°C in a mild detergent. Don’t spin-dry or tumble this padding, as the mechanical impacts might reduce its level of protection.
